Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman as a major general in May 1865. The black ribbon of mourning on his left arm is for President Lincoln. Portrait by Mathew Brady. Blogpost title refers to the General's much-quoted response when he was being considered as a possible Republican candidate for the presidential election of 1884.
We just stumbled upon an update to a January 15 Instapundit item that we'd missed:
Reader EMB Whitton writes: “Sissy Willis for president!” I think she’s much too sane to want the job.
He's right about our not wanting the job, but the jury's still out on the "too sane" part.
There's an awesome Gaudens bust of Sherman at his house. Will email you some photos I took of it when I can get into the Imac that froze when I updated with Snow Leopard (grrrr).

How about a presidential advisor, will you be willing to serve?

Such a well deserved compliment.
Perhaps the Nation would have been better served, if Sherman had served.
I know SISSY would make the best President of all.
