Those with drive and ambition to lead and compete still have something to prove. Whether rising above one's origins, living down or up to one's parents, or advancing a cause or belief system, this is a factor common to all. Whether by nature or nuture I will not speculate, but I think the answer has much to do with how we see ourselves as individuals, where and with whom we belong and what - and who - gives us value.

It seems to me that we are in an age when we desperately need to reenforce the traditional values which have made living in the the USA the goal of so many who don't. It must take an unusual person to rise from a dysfunctional home to be a leader of the sort we must have if we are to continue to be what we have been.
