Tiny pauses to contemplate the glory of being a cat down Goomp's over the weekend, where it was all free rein all the time.
We've been Down East at Goomp's for the last couple of days, food shopping, cooking -- our own version of Mummy's signature beef strogie on a bed of noodles with pea pods and Caesar salad -- and celebrating on Sunday the 66th anniversary of -- as we blogged on the 64th anniversary two years ago -- "his romantic elopement with our mother when they were just a couple of college kids in love." Susie and her Barney II, Chris, joined us for cocktails, girl talk, "boring man talk" and mixed doubles, topped off with a berries (blue and rasp) pie set in Susie's award-winning light-as-air crust:
Mr. Bill made a surprise visit (see face made by berry juice on ice cream scoop above)
As we wrote back then, Mary and Arthur "set off in a snowstorm":
They drove from Medford, MA to Manchester, NH and returned to their Tufts dormitory rooms the same evening. Their first night together as Mr. and Mrs. had to wait until the following weekend. The rest is history.
Ever the pièce de résistance adding feline energy and excitement to the well appointed table, Tiny made her appearance during the festivities, framed by Hannaford's off-the-shelf bouquet of roses, daisies, snapdragons, baby's breath and eucalyptus greens. Goomp asked how much. We checked, and it was just under $15. Fascinating to compare the pricing with our local -- and much loved -- florist's charge of over twice as much for a far simpler bouquet of six roses and greens delivered to our doorstep. As far as we're concerned, both have their place, but the supermarkets today are truly a market-forces miracle.
What we said two years back still goes:
Thanks, Goomp, for blessing us with your sentimental and enduring love for Mummy.
Goomp: You're da man!
Thank you for the lovely tribute. It brings a smile to my face and tears to my eyes.

We're all lucky that Mary and Arthur decided to elope. So many wonderful things came from it.

Teresa said it best. Sounds like you all had a great weekend. Wish I could have been there!

We all have a lot to be grateful for due to that elopement. No elopement, no wonderful blog to visit daily, no incisive and wise comments by Goomp, no magnificent pictures of Tiny and the Babe - a life lacking in some of its flavor!
