Ostrakon, if you aren't a leftwinger, there is no such thing! At least have the balls to be HONEST, how about it? Failure after failure? On what basis are you proclaiming this? The reporting in the New York Times, WAPo, the alphabet networks, what? Because if THAT is your basis for your words, you really do need to see about some meds.

My nephew is SERVING in Iraq as are the families of many people writing and visiting this site. I would trust my nephew's reports before I would ever trust the report of ANY mainstream media clown. When I studied journalism in college back in the dark ages (1959-1963), we were taught about sourcing, lack of bias - you know all those old fashioned values that USED to exist. I don't recognize this abortion masquerading as journalism today and, additionally, I deplore it.

So this war has been a huge success and that darn media is just making all of the turmoil up. Come on, now who’s not being honest. Even the President finally acknowledged the strategy is not working.

Your nephew should be given the respect he deserves. Is he telling you this is a huge success? How many tours has he done? Should we keep the commitments we made when he signed up? Should we not question the merits of mission he has been given? Isn’t that our commitment to the troops?

Only 35 percent of the military members polled last year said they approve of the way President Bush is handling the war, while 42 percent said they disapproved.

Are you saying all of the soldiers from General Officers to trigger pullers that are speaking out against this strategy and policy don’t count?

The soldiers I talk to tell me it’s a mess over their. Should I ignore what they tell me?

Here’s a good example from that terrible press of what I hear.
"I don't know who I'm fighting most of the time," said Staff Sgt. Joseph Lopez, 39, a soldier based in the northern outskirts of the capital. "I don't know who is setting what IED."

You want honesty; I am a fiscal conservative that is fed up with this disastrous administration. If opposing them means I am a left winger then so be it. If you are honest with yourself you will admit that if it was a democrat in charge you would be screaming for impeachment.

Hey sisu, your Dick is an incompetent guy who shoots people in the face. You can have him.

10-4 - read the origin of the caption, captured the picture for my screen saver.
thanks!

Clearly Sissy - you have attracted some seriously deluded infantile critters to this post.

Bottom Line: To those who insult or denigrate our military - here's the deal: I respect and applaud them. YOU however have not EARNED my respect with your distortions, lies and blind, unreasoning hatred and absolute refusal to see anything but your own limited view of life. Yes, things are rough in Iraq and yes, mistakes have been made. They will not be corrected by sticking our tails between our legs and running away.

What part of THEY WANT TO KILL US do you not get? And it isn't anything that we have done. They just want to kill us because they are fanatics and unhinged.

I always suspected that Cheney wasn't a guy. Thanks for clearing that up for us.

This ought to take the wind out of the sails of the Cheney/Halliburton conspiracy theorists:

"But the latest move by globe trotting, hyper-liberal billionaire George Soros borders on being too much. According to papers filed with the SEC, in the fourth quarter of 2006 Soros purchased nearly 2 million shares of ... hold your breath ... Halliburton. The Halliburton shares reportedly went for an average purchase price of $31.30 a share.

That puts Soros' total investment in Halliburton at around $62.6 million, or about 2 percent of his total portfolio. "

Cheney owns NONE, SOROS is a major investor. So answer me all you knee-jerk haters, does Soros' ownership of a major share (trust me - 2% is MAJOR in a corporation this large), somehow absolve Halliburton of being evil now? Or has George Soros now become irredeemably evil?

I am absolutely panting to know how or if any consistency of thought processes (or even if ANY thought process) occurs.

Oh Gayle,

Who exactly are THEY? The Sunni’s? The Shia? Which factions should we support and which do we attack. In Iraq we are generally supportive of the Shiite’s and go after Sunni radical extremists (Al Qaeda is a Sunni group) but the Shiite’s are closely aligned with Iran, our enemy, while the Sunni are supported by Saudi Arabia, Our supposed friend. In Lebanon we support Sunni radical groups aligned with Al Qaeda that fight against Hezbollah, a Shiite group backed by Iran. So this administration is, right now, actually supporting Al Qaeda. You don’t have a problem with that?

Read the following article. You can disagree with it, turn a blind eye, whatever, but at least read it.
SEYMOUR M. HERSH
http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/articles/070305fa_fact_hersh

The problem I have is that this administration is neither competent enough or has sound enough judgment to “win”.

And as for;
distortions, lies and blind, unreasoning hatred and absolute refusal to see anything but your own limited view of life.

All I have to say is;
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"
"You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.”

Watch your language, kid, or you'll be a persona non grata around here.

I suggest you listen to the reports of General Petraeus, Secretary Gates, embedded bloggers like Michael Yon and reporters like the NYTs John Burns, not to mention Iraqis on the ground like Omar Fadhil of the blog Iraq the Model, before making up your mind about what's really going on over there. Also, please note: One trusts the "facts" and agenda of Seymour Hersh at one's peril:

"I can certainly fudge what I say"
"We've gotta get Don Rumsfeld on this"

Have a nice day. :-)

Gayle,
First of all Cheney still owns options on 433,333 shares of Halliburton stock.
Second, Soros is a billionaire because he is a smart investor. Halliburton stock has more than doubled since 2000 and at that buy in he stands to make a great return on his investment. Halliburton is a corporation; its job is to make money for investors. I don’t criticize them for that. I do, however, criticize them for things like serving contaminated water to our troops and the multiple counts of over billing and fraud they have already been found guilty of. All at tax payers expense.

The problem is when the VP, the former CEO of Halliburton, makes policy decisions that result in a windfall of business and profits to that company. Especially when they were given as no bid contracts. Once again, if it were a democrat you would be screaming corruption.

The Islamofascists (that would be Al Queda, Hamas, Hezbollah, and all their bretheran) are dedicated to destroying the West and ALL WITHIN IT (including you, Ostrakon - despite your clear fondness for them - to them you are still an infidel and scum). If I were a Democrat, I'd be embarrassed by how poorly the most ethical Congress is going - what with people like Jefferson on Homeland Security (yeah right - a man with $90,000 in his freezer is just right for that). Oh yes, and then there's Alcee Hastings - an impeached Federal judge (and Pelosi voted FOR his impeachment) now being put in a position of authority on the Judiciary Committee. That makes all the sense in the world! Then there's the tuna fish factory in Pelosi's district that has been exempted from some Federal laws for no apparent reason. There's John Murtha who is an unindicted co-conspirator in the ABSCAM scandal. Harry Reid is still being investigated (as is Jefferson) for dirty dealings. All I can say is - they have no business throwing stones at ANYBODY.

Are you aware that the CONGRESS lets contracts, not the Vice President of the United States?

It has already been EXPLAINED to you that Mr. Cheney does not control one penny of Halliburton stock and that the options are being distributed to charity. I find that your obsession with whatever amount of money Mr. Cheney may possess smacks of class envy - and yet George Soros - whose business dealings are often somewhat questionable - him you defend.

I guess I have you figured out - ONLY the left is supposed to have any money. The right is supposed to be living hand-to-mouth and be grateful for it?

Your logic is absolutely indefensible except in the rare instances where it is missing entirely.

Oh yes - and the legislation that gave Halliburton the "no bid" contracts was passed under CLINTON. Not Cheney!

Gayle -- You're on a roll! :-)

Sorry Sissy, I didn’t think the bible quote was bad language.

All good sources.
Michael Yon does a great job giving on the ground reports of our troops efforts.

Mohammed and Omar Fadhil offer a valuable Iraqi perspective.
iraqthemodel.blogspot.com

Petraeus and Secretary Gates are, unfortunately, sounding more and more pessimistic.

The problem is at the policy level. We now see the administration doing a 180 with Korea, and will now sit down with Syria and Iran regarding the future of Iraq. If their policies had been successful they would not now be reversing them. This fight is too important to keep making mistakes.

Plus, when someone willfully takes your point wrong, you know you've got him in a corner.

Having lived through a suicide bombing while living in Israel and studying how to defeat them for years, I see your general use of the term Islamofascists as incredibly un-knowledgeable and that simplistic mindset as dangerous to US interests.

Ok Gayle, I get it,
Republican corruption - Justified
Democrat corruption – Unjustified

Jefferson should be in jail.
Alcee Hastings should have no leadership position.
John Murtha, who was Bush’s best friend until he disagreed with him, never took a dime and in his 32 year military career he received the Bronze Star with Valor device, two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He retired from the Reserves as a colonel in 1990, receiving the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.
It seems for all of your assertions that you don’t have a problem denigrating soldiers if they disagree with you.

Do you really want to list out all of the republicans charged and going to jail?

The administration;
Those who were indicted for crimes (9), those who resigned amidst ethics/corruption investigations (13)
Congress;
Rep. Bob Ney pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy and fraud charges
Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham pleaded guilty Monday morning to conspiring to take bribes in exchange for using his influence to help a defense contractor get business.
Etc. etc.

"Oh yes - and the legislation that gave Halliburton the "no bid" contracts was passed under CLINTON. Not Cheney!"

Your facts are just plain wrong. The huge no bid contracts to rebuild the Iraq oil fields began in 2003.

The 2003 contracts issued by the Republican congress, requested by the White House to get Iraq's oil fields to “pre-1991 production levels will take at least 18 months and cost about $5 billion initially, with $3 billion more in annual operating expenses,” according to a recent study by the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy

Sissy,

What language were you referring to?

Got it. The Suskind quote. Won’t happen again.

I've no proof when people say you're more or less aloof . . . But you're sensational . . .

Gayle,

You said that mistakes have been made. What mistakes you are referring to?

I am sick of dealing with a willfully ignorant troll - so I am removing myself from this fruitless debate. I don't enter into a battle of wits with the unarmed. I have attorneys to annoy!

I’m rubber and you’re glue. So if you don’t have the facts or logic on your side you can always resort to name calling. You are everything you decry, it must really twist you up inside. Well God bless and I hope you eventually find peace.
