In the wee hours on C-Span we caught Maine Senator Susan Collins and our own favorite Independent, Joey Lieberman of Connecticut, reaching for the gold ring, announcing a "Bi-Partisan Iraq Consultative Group." They could be on to something. Joey, after all, is in an unprecedented position of power with relation to both sides of the aisle at the moment. This is one to watch.
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles," wrote Sun Tzu in The Art of War:
If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.
His wisdom applies to all human -- and perhaps other species' -- struggles, great and small. But for the purposes of the post at hand, we're talking about our own "enemies" in the friendly competition amongst the "Best of the Top 250 Blogs" in Wizbang!'s Weblog Awards 2006. Vote HERE for sisu once a day through December 15, but first check out the awesome lineup of our challengers.
1. Here's what we commented to zuzu of Feministe re her post "So, what was that about promiscuity, again?":
And did you know that Rachel Carson's jihad on DDT led to the current resurgence of malaria in Africa?
2. We've already linked and trackbacked to Jay at Stop the ACLU with our own post on what makes Islamofascists tick:
3. Talk Left has left town and left a "space to chat." Nuff said.
4. To David Neiwert of Orcinus, for whom all the perfumes of Arabia cannot clean his dirty thoughts:
Don't put that finger in your ear. You don't know WHERE that finger has been.
5. Then there's our blog mentor and friend in life, Good Queen Bess of Cotillion fame, known to her intimates as Beth of My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, whose "Islamofascist reality check" speaks for itself. As she emailed this morning:
Sissy, I hate that we're in the same category, but I am SO glad you're in the finalists too! I certainly don't expect to win; I'm happy just having the sidebar jewelry. ;-)
6. Tom Maguire of Just One Minute offers "Something Behind Each Of Three Doors":
Whatever strategy we pursue should be directed towards a targeted end-state in Iraq, or so says the memo from the Department of the Obvious (never to be confused with the Department of Redundancy Department). So, where are we headed in Iraq?
. . . [his choice, Door #2] would be a Shiite government strong enough to more or less present the Sunnis with their own state and oil revenue stream. The end-state would look like the Biden plan of three states plus Baghdad.
Tom Maguire probably doesn't give a hoot about how many votes he's garnered in the Weblog Awards competition. Vive la difference. As for ourselves -- in addition trying to change the world by putting the Fourth Estate's feet to the fire, revealing beauty in unexpected places with our photographic eye and looking to the animals -- the importance of being noticed is a huge part of our interest in blogging, as our regular readers well know.
7. Back to the competition, there's milblog Argghhh!, who notes wryly:
Seems everyone and their Mother has been coming down with both boots on the ISG and the regional talks recommendation.
8. And speaking of beauty in unexpected places, Alexandra von Maltzan of All Things Beautiful, springing full blown as if from the forehead of Zeus, announces with panache in the wake of technical issues that "I Am Baaack" and comments in response to our own comment at her blog:
Anyway I am thrilled to be in your company, and look forward to the next couple of weeks of fun! Much love.
9. Finally, fellow Cotillion babe The Median Sib has a little fun at Hillary's expense.
We're in good company.
seeing Sen. Lieberman confront the 'surrender commission' was somewhat helpful...
perhaps some of the adults will manage to offer some maturity in regards to the future of the Free World, the lives of Millions of Iraqis, etc...
but for the liberal democrat partisans in the Media, they have declared victory, and feel they have defeated this President.
too bad, they are lost in unethical self interest...
i vote everytime the 24 hours span is up for SISU.
