A fair-weather version of "Baby is my co-pilot" took us Down East to Goomp's yesterday with thick but steadily moving traffic.
We can't help but wonder what goes on in the feline brain on these occasions. Tiny, especially, despises being scooped up to go into the car -- although once we're underway, both settle down -- and typically yesterday she picked up on the fact that a trip was imminent and made herself scarce. We finally tracked her down in the most inaccessible reaches of the attic, where her entire fursona took on an aura of doom and resignation once we captured her. A fascinating note re highway vs. secondary roads. They always pick up on the transition from Maine Turnpike to the York off ramp. It seems to be an auditory thing, the difference between the high-speed hum of the highway and the gravelier grumble of the slower-speed secondaries. Once we get to the awesome dirt road that leads to Goomp's driveway, their excitement and craning to take in every detail of the scene are palpable.
As we've blogged before, once the Chelsea Grays set paw on the soil of Camelot, where they are allowed to run free as opposed to home outings on their tethers, their inner feral emerges.
First off the launching pad for the festive family Finnish-Christmas-Eve extravaganza planned for tomorrow afternoon were the potatoes, baking for about an hour and a half at 350° (above) this morning in preparation for being transformed into a fluffy, fat-infused -- sweet butter, cream, sour cream -- mashed-potato casserole.
Sissy,
Have a wonderful Christmas and the best of everything in the New Year.
And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Goomp and Tuck !

Merry Christmas Sissy and Tuck,
Don't forget your digital Christmas stocking at my place http://www.estatevaults.com/bol/archives/2006/12/23/a_digital_chris.html
Sounds like your mashed potatoe casserole is a bit like Colcannon only without the cabbage and leeks.
