Can you find the cat in this picture? We couldn't find any of our pictures for a week's worth of posts during the day-long meltdown of our web log provider, TypePad, Friday. A little perspective, as usual, from InstaPundit: Slashdot reports that this is a symptom of how the growth of the blogosphere is straining data centers.
Too angry to speak. TypePad took a whole day out of our bloglife, and they appear to have lost two days' worth of our posts. No word whatsoever from them in response to our queries. Talk about business models. Here's associationinc's take, which we love:
It’s as if SixApart has a time machine and sent all of us (and our blogs) into the past. Bad service, getting worse -- wow, what a concept!
Seething happens. InstaPundit was willing to give TypePad the benefit of the doubt, but as we wrote the Professor:
Everybody may be a critic, but shouldn't a blogging service be answerable to the paying customers?
Seethe, seethe, seethe.
Update: Text of posts restored by early evening, but nine pictures missing. "Image being restored this weekend" message holding the place of pix. We're gonna reload 'em manually.
I am glad to see you're back! I was out for the count with a migraine all day -which means I'll be up all night *grin*...
If blogger goes down - you don't hear much complaint... because it's free. It's the fact that typepad is a paying service that brings the wrath down upon them when there is a large outage. And I do mean that literally... having done similar stuff myself over the years.
If it makes you feel any better - from reading the typepad site postings I'm pretty sure there are some people who are not getting any sleep this weekend while they try to get things back to normal.
