A republication of this post from way back when -- our first month of blogging -- in honor of Goomp's beautiful black pussycat, Lucie, who disappeared in the night Sunday and left us all bereft. We're still hoping against hope that she will return:
Natty Bumppo, meet Catty Bumppo:
Some excerpts from this morning's imail:
Goomp: Bon jour. No kittie today.
Sissy: I am heartbroken.
Goomp: As am I.
Sissy: Still can't believe an animal could have caught her.
Goomp: The fisher is fast and vicious.
Sissy: That frightens me so much.
Goomp: Yes. I worry for your kitties now. One attacked the Campbells' dog while she and the dogs were out walking.
Sissy: Then, of course, I remember Beedy, who had a horrible neck wound from some sort of encounter with a wild animal and stayed away for days but then came back home and lived on for decades to become eligible to vote.
Goomp: Yes. I had forgotten, but Susie reminded me yesterday.
Sissy: Hope springs eternal. Even if we never see that precious black face again, we will know she had a great life with you.
Goomp: She loved it here, and she and I were the best of friends.
Sissy: Yes. The very best. Soul mates.
Goomp: Yes.
Sissy: We love our kitties too much. They are so lovable.
Goomp: One can't love too much if the love is returned.
Sissy: I like the sound of that.
Goomp: A moment of happiness.
Too much sadness to bear.
Thank you for the lovely tribute to Lucie.

I couldn't get on to leave a comment earlier... so I sent an email to Goomp. *sigh* I'm so sorry.
