Whom would YOU rather meet in a dark alley, Baby Cakes in the pre-dawn Crazy Hour, left, or the power-crazed Senator John McCain from Arizona, right? You can't herd cats, Senator McCain, and you can't herd bloggers.
"I think it’s time to put the question to you directly. Who out there will make this pledge," challenges Patterico [via TigerHawk]:
If the FEC makes rules that limit my First Amendment right to express my opinion on core political issues, I will not obey those rules.
Judging from the comments I have read over the past few days, I believe there are plenty of others out there who feel the same way. Some of you have said as much in comments, and some of you have written blog posts that are consistent with my view. But I want to see if people will expressly make this pledge on their blog.
Are you kidding? Count us in, big time. A gal who refused to say "I do" 32 years ago when the Chelsea City Clerk asked us to agree to love, honor and "obey" isn't about to go wobbly now. Our storied answer then is the same as our answer now with regard to kowtowing to FEC -- or any government -- rules that would limit our First Amendment right to say what we think on our blog: We can't.
Are we at the crossroad of a free America? We have a Judiciary with fascist leanings who may well wish to limit speech to what they feel is politically correct. If they declare that only they can grant approved free speech, the dictatorship is then inevitable. Hail free bloggers rather than Hail government control.

I currently don't have a blog. But, if they do this I will create one just to exercise my First Amendment rights.
