When the U.S. invaded Iraq, FOXNews correspondent Rick "What a hottie!" Leventhalwas sent to Kuwait and embedded with the Marines for nine grueling weeks. When weathermen predicted another blizzard, Leventhal was whisked off to City Hall Square in downtown boston (above) and stood out in the cold with his cameraman for nine grueling seconds. But the blizzard never came. It was just your standard late-winter coastal New England snowstorm, and Rich knew it.
"We're in Boston. Boston gets several snowstorms every winter. Pan over there so the viewers can see the snowplow that's plowing the snow," deadpanned FOXNews correspondent Rick Leventhal -- on the scene in Boston -- yesterday morning . Our imail correspondent, who happened to catch the show, confirms our diagnosis:
She: I love the contrast of Rick's reporting from Iraq, in his camouflage gear, in a war zone, and his reporting from a rather dull, rather small snowstorm in Boston.
We: He knew it was no blizzard and pure silliness for his producer to have sent him up to Boston to grab ratings by being "ON THE SCENE."
Then there was this conversation between CNN's anchorgal Carol Costello and weatherman Chad Myers this morning:
Anchorgal: A lot of people were angry because of all the extra preparations they made for the big storm, and then it turned out to be just a few inches. They're blaming the weathermen.
Weatherman: It's the producers' fault. We gave them our best forecast, and they told us to hype it. It was sweeps week.
As The Prop of coffeegrounds comments re our previous alternative-media-vs-MSM screed:
Maybe most MSM is neither Right nor Left, but is whatever they think their buyers want to read/hear/see. "Give the people what they want."
This would also explain why most MSM is neither Left nor Right but Trivia. The coming of age of cable news wasn't Iran-Contra, it was O.J. Simpson. I guarantee you, for every minute of Left or Right Opinion currently being aired we are going to see 5 minutes of the Michael Jackson Trial.
Unfortunately, we can't argue with that. Even as we blog, FOXNews is posing the question too painful to contemplate: "Do you think having celebrity witnesses will help or hurt Michael Jackson?" That's what the clicker is for. We're off to TCM, where Kirk Douglas is tormenting Lana Turner in the "Sunset Boulevard" wannabe "The Bad and The Beautiful."
