Williams-Sonoma "medley of fresh gift ideas to brighten the baker's day"
What does a woman want? The media are all over the question in this run-up to St. Valentine's Day. A FOXNews poll this morning reveals -- as if you didn't know -- that the number one thing girls want is jewelry, while chocolates trail at number ten. That supports what we were saying here yesterday re the so-called "cheating" gifts Dance Fly guys make to their sweethearts. Biologists studying the insects' behavior noted that sometimes the guys give large dead flies the gals can eat while making love, while other times they give homemade silk purses filled with insect parts or even silk purses with nothing inside as valentine gifts. The biologists assumed that giving showy gifts without food -- jewelry vs. chocolate? -- was cheating. Our point was that it's the gesture of giving rather than the edibility of the gift that counts.
