"After much hemming and hawing, I've decided to put the blog as you've known it on hiatus for a few months," writes blogging pioneer Andrew Sullivan. After Drudge and then Lucianne, Andrew was the first blogger we ever knew and became addicted to. We devoured his posts daily for several years before ever deigning to put finger to keyboard and publish our own blog. Everything we knew about blogging we learned from him in those days.
Others say it was GW's anti-gay-marriage agenda that led to Andrew's recent disconnect from reality, but we suspect it was the loss of his little beagle. Be that as it may, we've been hardly able to read the old boy for some time now, even as he was our rod and our staff in the early days. His parting words:
The ability to keep on top of almost everything on a daily and hourly basis just isn't compatible with the time and space to mull over some difficult issues in a leisurely and deliberate manner . . . I was doing this when Clinton was president and Osama bin Laden was largely unknown -- and I've always thought it's a good idea to quit something after around five years or so. Before it becomes a chore. Before you become numb. No, it's not a response to criticism . . . But over two million words is a good enough milestone to ease up for a while. And getting through the US and Iraq elections seems to me as fair a time to take a leave as any.
All best to you Andrew. Come back to us, when you are ready, refreshed.
