A waxing gibbous moon visible to the east, framed by front-porch pilaster and columns early, early yesterday morning -- thanks to Goomp for alerting us -- with 89% of the visible disk illuminated, says the U.S. Naval Observatory. Nothing like that visible this morning, with a steady snowfall obscuring all heavenly bodies. Full moon due Wednesday at 11.54 p.m. EST.
"Since the heaviest snow usually falls during this month, native tribes of the north and east most often called February's full Moon the Full Snow Moon," according the Farmer's Almanac:
Some tribes also referred to this Moon as the Full Hunger Moon, since harsh weather conditions in their areas made hunting very difficult.
Full Hunger Moon. We can relate to that.
