After 20 years of stellar service, the old washer and dryer are disconnected and await the man from Sears, who will take them to the Happy Laundering Ground to make way for their sparkling new replacements this afternoon. We are still able to take pictures with the Pentax (see Althouse Moment above), but only four at a time, and then they have to be uploaded to the computer or deleted because the hated card reader can read only the Canon 8MB card, not the larger-capacity SanDisks. Because the camera's receptacle for the USB cable is damaged, we can no longer upload directly.
Update, for the record -- and to account for our persistently distracted state:
1. Pentax Optio 450 receptacle for USB cable is damaged and unusable. Card reader necessary to upload pictures to computer.
2. Back-up camera, the Hewlett-Packard Photosmart 735, can be uploaded directly via USB cable.
3. Canon 8 MB card works in card reader -- Digital Concepts 6 in 1 -- but has only 4 exposures' worth of memory.
4. Old SanDisk 128 (perhaps prematurely FedExed off this morning to the manufacturer for exchange) and brand new SanDisk 512 cannot be read by card reader and must be reformatted after being returned to camera.
5. Bottom line, we've still got a problem, Houston. 'Want to be able to use the Pentax with a fat card and upload to the computer at will.
'Going to see Steve at Bromfield Camera tomorrow. He thinks he can figure out what's wrong and fix it. If not, he assured us, "It will be the first time." Famous last words?
