Each sewing machine in Spirit of America's Sewing Machines for Women in Ramadi Project costs $475, according the Marine Corps Moms. So far we've raised enough for 1 1/3 machines.
Do the math. Sissy's Sewing Circle has raised $655 to purchase sewing machines for Iraqi women. That will cover the cost of about 1 1/3 machines plus a few extra bobbins. We need more money, and we need it now. Our honor and the livelihood of some deserving Iraqi seamstresses are riding on it. We thank all of our faithful readers for their generous gifts so far and are on bended cyberknee begging for more.
The Friends of Iraq Blogger Challenge as a whole -- of which Sissy's Sewing Circle is a part -- has raised over $66,600 for various projects so far. There are only two more days to go, so -- as the Leslie Nielson character says in "Airplane!" -- "I want you to know we're all counting on you."
$320 will cover the cost of the final 2/3 of a second sewing machine for those Iraqi women. Remember our marching song:
Give a woman a dress, and she is clothed for a day. Give her a sewing machine, and she can clothe and feed her family for a lifetime. As the women sew, so goes the nation.
We would normally recommend your supporting additional worthy projects through other SOA Friends of Iraq Bloggers -- especially our buddies in the Castle Argghhh! Fighting Fusileers for Freedom! and Team Pajamahdeen - Operation Viral Freedom -- but at this point we're desperate and hope you'll consider putting your money where the needle hits the platen. As our fearless SOA leader Jim Hake -- who, along with Iraq the Model bloggers Omar and Mohammed stopped by the Oval Office the other day -- has advised us:
Please post often these last 48 hours. Whip your readers into a holiday-season giving frenzy. Show the blogosphere what you are made of, and don't suffer a humiliating and life-altering defeat. Let everyone know who wears the pajamas in your family!
