We got 'em. Yesterday there were only 1 1/3 sewing machines for the women of Ramadi in the pipeline, but thanks to our treasured readers who responded since yesterday's pleadings, we've secured 2 machines, and the day is still young. $475 will get us another one. What do you say?
Checking out our birthday mailbox this morning, we were delighted to find unanticipated support from the Feline Community:
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough, and have yourself a Merry little Christmas now (Dr. Hull photograph of star-quality feline companion Cowboy)
The doctor is in. Our esteemed reader, Dr. Hull -- aka Popeye the Sailor -- sends this note on behalf of his feline associates, putting Sissy's Sewing Circle over the top in our Spirit of America Friends of Iraq Blogger project to send two industrial-strength sewing machines to the women of Ramadi:
. . . with a little $130 donation from our 4-1/2 cats: Friendly Bob, Cowboy, Smoky, Miss Kitty, and Patches. That's Cowboy, trying out for tree-topper [That 1/2 cat is the neighbor's who gets handouts from the good doctor. --ed]
Thank you so much, Dr. Hull. What a fab birthday present for the blogger who has everything.
It is great to see cat people pull together, particularly for a wonderful cause such as Sissy's Sewing Circle.
