Tweaking the Christmas card design -- gotta go out and buy the photographic paper to print 'em on today -- we've Photoshopped in the Strawberry Moon from last June, sorta like a stand-in for the star that guided the Magi way back when. Fortunately, our artistic license is up to date.
Speaking of Christmas card designs, our very first post -- "The tidings that dare not speak their name" -- one year ago today, featured last year's card and a timely challenge to the cluelessly politically correct that we were unafraid to either wish or be wished a "Merry Christmas." We second that emotion.
Checking out the Old Farmer's Almanac, we note 12 full moons have risen and set since we started blogging December 12, 2003. We've caught quite a few of them with our Pentax Optio 450, the best Christmas present ever. Thank you, Tuck! What a revelation to be able to upload an image only seconds after clicking the shutter. Before that, in the snail age of only a year ago, we had to shoot a whole roll of film -- 24 to 36 images -- then have them developed (and hope we got a few good ones) and scan them using what used to be the cutting-edge love of our photographic life, the Nikon CoolScan IV slide scanner. Now it's all Optio 450 all the time.
An article in Thursday's WSJ discussing the sale by IBM of its PC operations to China pointed out the permanence of change. Your experience with the exciting changes in picture taking are another example. In spite of the doomsayers, change leads progress in spite of the mix of better and worse.
