Spooky Full Beaver Moon* framed by Goomp's sturdy Red Oaks waxed ever larger and oranger as it set picturesquely behind the inner harbor this morning.
The above image was taken around 5:30, when it was still dark and we nearly lost camera and limb stumbling over the stoop off the garage. All things familiar are eerily distorted when you can't see. Wobbly image below was taken c. 6:15. Moonset occurred at 6:43 in these parts according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.
Photo unretouched. It really was this much oranger as it approached the horizon.
*The Farmer's Almanac re Algonquin moon naming: Full Beaver Moon - November. This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon.
