Thanksgiving Dinner menu, Thursday, November 22, 1984, Chelsea-by-the-Sea
Rummaging through the diningroom linen drawer for the proper tablecloth and napkins for tomorrow's feast up at Goomp's, we stumbled upon a piece of history, this menu from what may have been our own very first Hey-Ma-Look-at-Me family Thanksgiving dinner that we did all on our own, exactly twenty years ago. We remember our dear mother's horror at the image of a cat stealing a mouse from the shocked diner's plate (above left). Even more memorable, that very day our precious Midnight, prettiest, fluffiest black pussycat ever, just happened to prance proudly by outside with prey -- a rat? -- in mouth just as dinner was being served. Or is that one of those family myths that grows with the years?
Another memory, whether it was that particular Thanksgiving or not, was having to drive frenziedly into Charlestown to a 24/7 convenience store at 5 a.m. to buy oven cleaner after the turkey decided to slip off the baking pan and meld itself onto the surface of the oven. Such moments are what Butterball's Turkey Talk-Line™ is for.
The menu (above right) is not so different from tomorrow's other than our latter-day sine qua non addition of cooked sausage to the stuffing. As Drudge says, developing.
Happy Thanksgiving! That Apple and Raisin stuffing looks good!
For the first time in my 47 years I am making Thanksgiving dinner. Just put my first pumpkin pie in the oven and tomorrow I attempt my first turkey.
Should be a hoot. ;)

Not to mention a gobble! All best to you and yours, Pam, and congratulations on this first turkey of your own.
