"I believe the moral imperative of our time is to fully prosecute the War on Terror. As a Jew, I believe this sacred fight embodies the deepest Jewish values, so eloquently expressed by the ancient sage Hillel: 'If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?' writes an anonymous Jewish liberal New Yorker published by The Command Post in the most eloquent argument yet refuting John Kerry's Chamberlainesque pipe dream -- blogged here -- that ''We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance":
And yet history has appointed the hour of our challenge, and however much we wish to turn back time, our moment has come. When the World Trade Center was attacked the first time in 1993, we chose to ignore the true seriousness of its implications. But on September 11th, 2001, with the Pentagon in flames, the World Trade Center collapsing, and a hijacked plane speeding towards Congress, we finally began our generation’s rendezvous with destiny.
"You can not escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today," said President Lincoln at another decisive moment in our nation’s history. The War on Islamic Terror must be waged fully, humanely, and successfully. This monumental battle is both our burden and our privilege, for as Thomas Paine said when our country was born, "If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace."
On November 2nd, I will choose to honor my heritage as a Jew and as an American by voting for George Bush.
Powerful stuff, and needless to say, read the whole thing.
Update: Speaking of "if not now, when?" today is Wictory Wednesday, the day of the week when hundreds of bloggers ask their readers to donate to an important Republican Senate campaign. PoliPundit tells how you can help:
New polls show that the race between Republican US Senate candidate Tom Coburn and Democrat Brad Carlson in Oklahoma is a tossup.
Coburn is the more talented candidate, but Carson is benefiting from a systematic campaign by Oklahoma media to boost his candidacy. Coburn needs our help to tip the scales. A few dollars can go a long way towards buying advertising that highlights Coburn’s conservatism and Carson’s liberalism. You can easily contribute to Coburn’s campaign online.
I'm only writing this because my opinion of John Kerry isn't as solid as it used to be so I don't know if I totally agree. The president dominated last debate and I expected him to do the same again. He did well, but I've got to say my world was turned upside down tonight! I was just shocked to see a Democrat who didn't pander the anti-Christian, anti-religious, devil worshiping wing of the party! I have no doubt that those voodoo worshippers are going to fry for it! The man actually showed conviction and he seemed sincere. He talked about his faith and I connected with that message. I'm not sure if I could ever vote for a Democrat, but based on tonight I entered the undecided column.
