Jim Geraghty's "Kerry Spot" over at National Review cites our Cheney-Lieberman debate post -- total swoon -- referring to us as "he." Cool or not?
As a younger sister of an adored older brother, we had "gender issues" in our Fifties childhood long before it became fashionable amongst the cognoscenti. There were specific times when the two of us, sparring buddies, were about to do something together and he was allowed but we weren't because "you're a girl." Then there was the way women were portrayed in much of the classical literature we read in our youth. It wasn't fair. Who wanted to be a girl, anyway? Once the hormones kicked in, the joys of being a woman in love crowded out the earlier resentments, but still. An odd feeling to be referred to as a "he." Hee, hee.
Update: We sent Mr. Geraghty a note, and he has corrected our gender.
Well the difference does make life more interesting for both men and women. There are wonderful ones of both sexes. Fortunately women are not the same as men. Better a good women than bad man and better a good man than a bad woman.
