"A lot of people are saying a draw," claims an early-morning CNN news reader. Huh? How many, and what is their agenda? Fortunately, we noticed that CNN's Aaron Brown was taking a cue from Bush-Cheney '04's Live Debate Facts -- not to mention the Pajamasphere -- and fact-checking both debaters in the immediate aftermath (Why were we watching CNN? FOXNews had on Patrick Leahy, or was it just that Alan Colmes wouldn't stop talking?). But back to style and substance, we agree with Sherry of Bittersweet*, who was at her computer throughout the debate, even as we were dozing off ('caught the rest of it later on in the reruns). Dick Cheney won hands down:
Daisy Cutter called Cheney the winner from the beginning. For the record I believe she was right. Cheney was strong and unwavering, where it's my opinion Edwards looked smug and over confident.
I liked Gwen Ifill. I think she did a classy job and asked some important questions with few softballs.
Bush and Cheney have a vision, and as Cheney pointed out, Kerry and Edwards don't. Of course I'm biased, and my vote has not changed.
Favorite line: when Cheney said he is the President of the Senate, and this is the first time he has met Edwards . . . booya.
I love that now Kerry's Senate record is back on the table, there are questions that need to be answered.
We noticed our beloved Dick Cheney (You're the best, Mary Matalin!) is up to speed on the power of the internet, citing FactCheck.org as an antidote to the Kerry campaign's false accusations re Mr. Cheney's financial interest in Halliburton.
Update: The spin c. 6 o'clock this morning seems to be all about important hair and cute smiles. If that's really going to sway the election, the Founding Fathers must be truly rolling in their graves.
Update II: The post-menopausal (climacteric?) Andrew Sullivan "thought Edwards won easily" but acknowledges that while "the online polls show a huge Edwards win . . . they might be hijacked." We had that distinct impression re FOXNews's post-debate online poll results.
*We love the new face of Sherry's Bittersweet blog, premiered this morning -- sexy and sassy 'cause girls just wanna have fun.
Update III: Put your money where your mouth is. Today is Wictory Wednesday. Every Wednesday, hundreds of bloggers ask their readers to donate to an important Republican Senate campaign. PoliPundit tells how you can help:
There’s a very interesting Senate race in North Carolina. Republican Richard Burr, who was 10 points behind Democrat Erskine Bowles, is rapidly moving up and the race is now even . . . Burr needs your help. The wealthy Bowles is pouring his own money into the race and Burr needs to counter him. If you don’t want Democrats controlling the Senate, then please contribute whatever little you can to Burr’s campaign.
Thank you Sissy
