The Boston Skyline by the dawn's early light this morning, September 11, 2004 from the front steps. The beautiful sight caught our breath and filled us with dread and hope as we remembered that sparkling early-autumn morning three years ago when we were driving back down from Maine to Boston, catching the first reports on the car radio -- even as the awful events were still unfolding -- wondering what horrors might lie ahead.
The indomitable Matt Margolis of Blogs for Bush -- that courageous and energetic young man who blogged the Republican National Convention for all of us just two weeks ago -- invited us Bloggers for Bush to submit essays reflecting on our thoughts and feelings on the anniversary of 9/11, which he would then publish -- one every half hour -- on said anniversary. That day is upon us. Wrote Matt in his email invitation earlier this week:
You can approach it however you'd like, you can write about how it changed your life, what your learned from it, or any other approach you feel is appropriate. This is not meant to be political; however, Bush's leadership following 9/11 was a big part of that day for most of us, and if that impacted you, I do encourage you to talk about that. We saw at the convention that it was okay to reflect on Bush's leadership, so please don't feel as if you cannot use that as a theme. Myself, I found Bush's leadership that day to be comforting, and I plan to address that myself.
Our own essay -- originally posted here -- is there, and we're looking forward to reading what our fellow Bush Bloggers have to say.
Know that on this day, America is not alone in sadness and reflection.
Australia mourns with you, as brothers and sisters beside you.
May this day bring you renewed strength, and a sense of peace.
