What if you stuff your sox wrong? Ha, ha. "People who don't know him might find it hard to believe," guffawed Bubba.
"I wish I knew who leaked it. It's interesting timing," Bubba is saying -- all innuendo, no beef -- according to a Drudge Report Flash 2004. Remember that old saw about the former president?
How can you tell Bill Clinton is lying?
His lips are moving.
Well, they're moving fast and loose in the current news cycle:
DRUDGE has learned: In an interview set for publication Wednesday in the DENVER POST, Clinton questions the timing of the Berger flap less than a week before the Democratic National Convention and two days before a presidential commission is slated to release its final report on the Bush administration's handling of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
"We were all laughing about it," Clinton said about the investigation into Sandy Berger for taking classified terrorism documents from the National Archives. "People who don't know him might find it hard to believe. But . . . all of us who've been in his office have always found him buried beneath papers."
Clinton tells the POST he has known about the federal probe of Berger's actions for several months, calling the news a "non-story."
We knew something was up when they started trotting out the old "It depends upon what your definition of is, is" Zippergate apologists like Lanny Davis and Chris Lehane on the cable news shows yesterday. Glenn Reynolds issues a Conspiracy-Theorist Alert:
Clinton knew months ago, but Kerry didn't? As Roger Simon notes, Clinton isn't doing Kerry any favors here. Chalk one up for those Clinton-will-torpedo-Kerry-so-Hillary-can-run-in-2008 conspiracy theorists? Attention theorists: Maybe he's the leaker -- he knew!
Oh. And about Bubba's feigned dismissal of the seriousness of it all. His "We were all laughing about it" gave us that same skin-crawling feeling we had when we heard Paul Begala's take on executive orders way back when: "Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Cool." Conspiracy theorist or not, one is struck by the lack of respect the Clintonites have for "We the people" (Us the people?).
