Composite of moon and wildlife from the front porch early this morning
A waxing gibbous moon with 99% of the visible disk illuminated caught our eye in the wee hours (Full Sturgeon Moon tomorrow). We grabbed our camera, headed for the front porch and all but stepped upon a family of raccoons -- mom and two or three kits (hard to tell for sure in the confusion that followed) -- that just happened to be crossing the landing two steps below on their nightly rounds. Everyone panicked a little -- not least ourselves. Fight or flight? The mother rose up with cat-like hissing, distracting us till her youngsters had time to scramble out of harm's way. She paused for a final warning glare and then vanished into the night.
We got our moon shot and headed back inside, where Tiny and Baby were all eyes and ears wanting to know just WHAT was going on, and why hadn't they been informed earlier?
Here was the view from the porch a few hours later -- typical summerish -- early-morning light under hazy skies, with light winds from the southwest.
Great photos from the wilds of Chelsea-by-the-Sea.

Wonderful shots, especially the rousted coon under the red moon... Woot!
