Secretary of State huh? Interesting.

I myself am thinking Vice President.

I am convinced Dick Cheney will not be on the ticket in November. The two choices I see for his replacement are Rudy Guiliani (who will likely run for Prez in 2008) and John McCain.

John McCain would seal the independent vote for Bush almost for sure. And it would get him fully on the team. Additionally, McCain, having been a Senator for so long could easily take over Cheney's job as Congressional liaison.

You guys are right, of course. VP sounds more likely for Senator McCain -- or even Secretary of Defense -- but this old heart of mine can't face the idea of having "My Dick" or "My Don" out of the picture just yet.

Don't get me wrong, I like Cheney, always have. But I'm not convinced he's up to another 4 years in Washington, physically. Also, there would be a concern if god-forbid he had to be President which is something he must consider as a possibility.

Personally, I think the decision has already been made, but the time to announce it is just before the convention. Even more dramatic (and good politics is good drama) would be at the convention itself. The press would be talking about it for days, if not weeks. They would love the departure from scripted conventions.

This feels right to me.

I just don't know if it will be McCain, but he sure looked Vice Presidential.
