Worried about Tiny. She didn't come to bite my nose for breakfast. 'Found her upstairs being very quiet and pale-gummed. Going to take her to Angell Memorial 8 a.m.
Update: Doc says she has high fever but doesn't look overly pale. Keeping her there to give IV to avoid dehydration and do blood work. All kinds of things it could be. Will call with report early afternoon.
Lab tests update: High white blood cell count of one of five different kinds of WBC's, the one called neutrophils. Normal = 18,000, Tiny's at the moment = 35,000. Doc says that suggests bacterial infection or other inflammation.
Now going to do a body x-ray to search for possible abscesses or bite wounds missed in manual examination. Will also start antibiotics. Fever still high at 104o. Going to call back before 5 p.m.
Also (from our notes): Globulins high, indicating inflammation response. Chemistry okay except for slightly low calcium and phosphate.
Afternoon update: X-rays offer no answers. Doc thinks Tiny probably has a bacterial -- not a viral -- infection and is putting her on antibiotics. Continue with fluids. Temp still high at 103.3o, and still no food interest.
Call the doc tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Next morning (Thursday): Fever has come down somewhat, and Tiny has eaten a little, but not with enthusiasm. Will continue with IV fluids and antibiotics. Call doc 5 p.m. for report.
Saying a prayer for Tiny - update us when you know something!
