The UN doesn't get it, but, then, the Mother of All Bureautic Nightmares was never meant to get it. This just in, in our e-mailbox in response to our signing the petition to protest Kofi Annan’s inaction on the genocide in Darfur when the UN Secretary General preaches to the choir next Thursday at Harvard, blogged here:
Thank you for your inquiry which has been received at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Due to the volume of inquiries, we may not be able to respond to all of them. In the meantime, we invite you to visit our website http://www.un.org where you will find useful information about the work of the Organization.
In addition, the following address will take you to the web-page with answers to Frequently Asked Questions http://www.un.org/geninfo/faq
Thank you for your interest in the United Nations and for taking the time to contact us.
Isn't that special. In a rational world -- we know, Dr. Pangloss and all that -- the sheer volume of inquiries might prompt a regular person, the type Chun the Unavoidable dubbed ourselves, "a genuine working-class Bush supporter," to sit up and take notice. But UN types know what's best for the unwashed, so there's no reason to listen to our rantings. We are reminded of our former President Clinton's immortal words: "What if YOU spent YOUR money wrong?"
It's not the UN that is neglecting Sudan, it's the member states.

"...there's no reason to listen to our rantings." Exactly! You and I and all the other individuals in the world are not the UN's constituency. Nations are. That's why Kofi does not give a darn what you think. Layers of organization insulate the felons from public opinion, and the UN, being above all governments, is most insulated of all. Which is why this, the largest financial scandal in human history, took place at the UN.
