Our computer has been hijacked:
Often installing as a helpful browser toolbar, hijackers may alter browser settings or change the default home page to point to some other site.
Out of nowhere popped just such an univited toolbar along the bottom of the screen yesterday. We used our Lavasoft Ad-Aware program to remove it, but today the Ad-Aware program is nowhere to be found. We've been trying to reinstall Ad-Aware at Download.com, but it doesn't seem to work.
If it's the "Cool Web Search" there's something called "CWShredder" that worked for me. It's supposed to work on all of those hijacks.
I downloaded it and haven't had a problem since.
Good luck.

I was just thinking about you, as I've just published a post about your very helpful "Not helpful" post. Thanks for the tech tip. Will get right on it!
