We were only too willing yesterday to buy the story of how Hillary had put her own ambitions ahead of national security by telling an Arab newspaper that the U.S. was in trouble in Iraq, and it was all Bush's fault. Could anything fit our own narrative more precisely? Too good to be true? Perhaps. Today NewsMax reports a blanket denial from the Senator:
The story on NewsMax and several other news outlets here in the U.S. prompted a firestorm of outrage from her critics, with some saying the remarks gave aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war.
On Wednesday morning, Sen. Clinton's office contacted several U.S. news outlets and informed them that the interview had been made up out of whole cloth.
