Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus)
Tiny's tail was switching and her mouth "chattering" at something outside in the yard: A HAWK! But which one?
Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus)
Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii)
Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis)
Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus)
Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)
Rough-legged Hawk (Buteo lagopus)
Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus)
We're more used to an occasional mockingbird, a pair of cardinals or a flock of starlings passing through. To the untrained eye, exact identification was out of the question. We scurried for the Pentax Optio 450, but the raptor caught wind of what we were up to and was gone.
