We've got Beef Strogie Lite down to a science now for the Cold Turkey Cookbook. Key finding from our experimental kitchen: When you reduce your cooking liquid, straight chicken broth yields too much saltiness. Instead, use one part white vermouth or other white wine, one part broth and one part water. You can find the recipe here. The new, improved Sauce Sisu is spelled out below. The photo above -- stumbled upon during major fall housecleaning -- is of SIssy in her salad days with nephew Chris and ur-cat Molly.
"Feeling better is a huge deal for me, so yes . . . that’s the real motivator now, instead of my thighs," quips blogfriend Pam of Pamibe, who's helping turn that "scientific" study -- tell me about it -- claiming obesity is contagious on its head:
I haven’t even walked or worked out in two weeks! I realize the sedentary bit is nothing to brag about, but now that my body is changing and I feel so much better, I’ll be working in something every day . . .
I can’t pull one specific ‘rule’ out and say: “That’s it; that’s what the diet is all about!” because I incorporated something from everyone. I haven’t had alcohol. Tried to watch additives and buy organic. Smaller portions. I’ve learned my body loves lean meats and lots of veggies and fruits.
Girls just wanna have fun, but if you don't feel well, it ain't got that zing. We're thrilled that our own epiphany has resonated with some of our favorite bloggers. Teresa -- who, like our sis and Cosmo in "Moonstruck" knows everything -- had this to say a couple of days back:
Sissy Willis was nudged by her doctor who told her she needed to change something because her eating habits were causing her health problems. Little did he (she?) know, that nudge would turn into a blog project!
Not only has Sissy lost 25 pounds, she's been putting together light tasty recipes and posting them with glorious pictures. Finally Pam requested that she put it together into a book, but Sissy went one better . . . The Cold Turkey Cookbook Index to Recipes.
