A 'lull between the storms"?
"I am aware this is a crappy post but stats are down and who the hell cares, maybe my kid will read it and figure it out someday," writes a gloomy Mind of Mog. 'Hope she's feeling better soon. She is one of the lights of our life. One of her fans, Jim of Smoke on the Water, has some interesting things to say in her comments section:
I think the stats are down all over. Sgt. Hook mentioned it, too. DGCI almost quit blogging altogether over it. Must have something to do with the “lull between the storms", from the primary seasons to the conventions/full campaigns. That, and Iraq has become anticlimatic and monotonous to many (not me).
In short, Blogdom seems to thrive more on catyclysmic happenings of one sort or another, and we really don’t need more of THOSE, do we?
But yes. Stats are the blogger's drug of choice. When they're down, we're down. When Jim referred to the "lull between the storms," though, the first thing that came to mind was July 15, the 905th anniversary of the day in 1099 when Jerusalem fell to the Crusaders. We blogged about it here when Osama announced his three-month "ultimatum" back in April. Now some airhead out there has written a letter:
"'To the European people . . . you only have a few more days to accept bin Laden's truce or you will only have yourselves to blame,' said a statement purported to be from Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, which claimed responsibility for the March 11 train bombings in Spain," reports Reuters:
An al-Qaeda-linked group vowed to renew attacks on Europe and urged Muslims to flee once Osama bin Laden's three-month truce ends on July 15, an Arabic-language newspaper reported on Friday.
Like all weak, self-loathing loser/bullies, these folk blame their own inadequacies on "the other," in this case -- early and often -- the "Great Satan," as embodied in George W. Bush. They are pre-absolving themselves of any suffering that may result from their future activities:
So do not blame us for what will happen, and we apologize to you in advance if you are among those killed.
Isn't that nice. They really do care about us. As someone said this morning out here in the blogosphere, Bill Cosby needs to go talk to these people. Michael King was the first to alert us to the Coz's brave new stance, a couple of weeks back. Today he reiterates:
As I mentioned on Fox News Channel this week, personal responsibility plays a huge part in black America getting ahead. I hope Cosby's statements get through to some of those who wouldn't dare listen to someone like me.
We've said it before. We'll say it again. Amen, brother.

Hey, the one that ripped on me showed personal responsibility - she took the initiative to place the blame on me for not appreciating her lazy self. She's off the hook, immune from any real criticism while I am in deep trouble for just struggling to do my job myself.
